Re-model for existing staircases

At MD Build we can update the look of your stairs without changing the complete staircase.  This is a popular choice for people who want to change their existing staircase, but do not want to change their stair flights.  With a staircase remodel, we can change newel posts, handrails, baserails and spindles.  We can also clad over existing riser and treads, as well as outer and inner wall stringers, creating a totally new look.

The woods that are most popular for staircase remodels are pine, hemlock, sapele, ash and oak.  It is also popular to mix and match to create different looks.  As you can see from a recently completed stair job (click here), having oak newels, handrails and baserails, combined with painted white pine spindles is a popular choice, and can also give the impression of a lighter and more open space.

Did you know we supply stair parts to both trade and to the public?

All our stair parts are made in our Chester based workshop and are made from either prime grade solid oak, or unsorted redwood (pine).

Our range includes:

  • Square or stop chamfered newel posts (made to your specific thickness and height requirIMG_4031ements)
  • Newel caps (Flat) – full, half or bespoke size available
  • Spindles – square or stop chamfered (900mm or 1100mm)
